  1. I see the first two answeres are state side but far more cosly in the UK as we pay more for energy and we have several levels of high speed services  London-Paris,Mainline East Coast like London -Glasgow with 90s but the Ipswich-London still 90s but interworked with 170s then Cross Country 170s and 158  The speed of modern traction and track being equal high speed line canbe very few stops A few years ago a 105 interworking with a 86 would have been a joke

  2. It depends on what sort of train you intend to sell.

Specific HST cost money becuase you can only use them with other HSTs of the same types. These are trains which are generally specifically designed for "that" consumer and generally feature tilting.

Trains in this category tend to cost several hundred thousand, millions especially for good ones, but obviously mass prodction will reduce costs.

Unspecific, i.e. HST Engines only, however, cost a couple of 100 thousand each and have the benefit that the coaching stock can be used by other trains/locomotives.

  3. You are looking at around £1 million (about $2m.) each for the power cars (the diesel locomotives at each end) and up to half a million ($1m) for each carriage, depending on type.

An HST nornally has 2 power cars and 8 carriages so you are looking at around £6 million ($12 million) for a complete train.

They don't come cheap. However, some are being withdrawn now so you might get one secondhand for less. Then you could refurbish and overhaul it and sell it on for profit.

As a manufacturer or rolling stock dealer you would sell the trains but as a Rolling Stock Company (ROC) you would lease them to the Train Operating Companies (TOCs). NB this is UK practice, you might include this in your project if appropriate.

  4. Interesting info on a proposed system here :  http://floridabullettrain.com/

    Gives projected estimated costs etc.

  5. Check the wikipedia article on California High Speed Rail.
