Estonia v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Israel-c2925 at Corfu – European Championship Division Two Twenty20 (Group A) – Match Update
An unbeaten half-ton from Eshkol Solomon enabled Israel to clinch a 5-wicket victory over Estonia in their Group A match, played on September 6 at the Ropa Valley No 1 Ground, during the ongoing European Championship Division Two Twenty20 being held in Corfu.
Estonia won the toss and elected to bat first, opening their innings with Mart Tammoja (7) and Nand Lal Riar (59 off 34). Their partnership set a solid 57-run foundation for their side, after which Tammoja was caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danny-Hotz-c52377 off Shifron Waskar.
Riar soon followed suit, sent packing by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raymond-Aston-c84289, but the next duo of Timothy Filer (48* off 35) and skipper Tim Heath (who scored a quick-fire 26 off 11 deliveries, including 3 sixes and 1 four) kept the innings moving forward with a 64-run 3rd-wicket
stand.
Their efforts got the team up to 137, after which Heath was bowled by Solomon. His successor, Moshiur Rahman (6*) teamed up with Filer for an unbeaten 17-run stand which enabled Estonia to post a final total of 154 by the end of 20 overs, at the expense
of 3 wickets.
Israel’s innings got off to a shaky start, with the top order falling without much of a fight. Openers Daniel Hyman (0) and skipper Herschel Gutman (1) were both sent packing by Riar (3-1-20-2), while number 3 batsman Josh Evans was run out by Remo Raud
on duck.
However, Solomon steadied the innings with an unbeaten 85 off 52, which included 2 sixes and 7 fours. His partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gabriel-Schachat-c58291 (21) yielded 55 runs, and following the dismissal of the latter at the hands of Rahman, Solomon joined forces with
Hotz (25) for a 5th-wicket 86-run stand, which got the team up to 148.
Sivalingham Arunachalam sent Hotz packing, but by this point in the match Israel were on steady ground, and Aston (2*) and Solomon easily got the team up to 155, with 5 wickets and 10 deliveries remaining. The victory earned Israel 2 match points, and a
spot in the tournament semi-final against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Isle-of-Man-c41000 at the Marina Ground on September 7.
