Estonian International 2012: Judith Meulendijks beats Elizabeth Cann to win Women’s Singles title
Nederland’s talented female shuttler, Judith Meulendijks, proves her fabulous skills as she has won the Women’s Singles title after beating Elizabeth Cann of England in the title match of the Estonian International 2012 on Sunday, January 15, in Estonia.
Judith, who is World Number 57 at the moment, played to her maximum speed and emerged as the winner against the higher ranked and top seed Cann, who has been placed at number 54 in Women’s Singles world standings.
The Dutch shuttler impressed the crowd with her remarkable play in the final battle and won it in three games by consuming 52 minutes in the court.
Cann, who has been impressive throughout the event failed to continue her winning run in the final match as her Dutch rival was in her prime form. The English lady could not stop the progressive run of Judith in the deciding game and lost the match with
a big margin.
Judith started the opening game in style as she wasted no time in setting up an early lead by playing fast badminton. On the other hand, Cann failed to play aggressive game as her challenger kept the pace of rallies at maximum level.
The Dutch lady remained ahead of her higher ranked rival in the whole opening game and won it in a completely one-sided way by ending it with a stunning 21-13 score on the board.
In the second game, it was Cann who dominated the game this time as she played aggressive badminton and took an early lead. She employed variations in her strokes and did not commit any mistake in this set.
On the other hand, Judith played negative game in the whole set as she lost her focus and failed to control the pace of rallies. She lost the second game with a huge margin of 10-21.
In the deciding game, Judith changed her strategy and started to keep the bird low. She did not spare any chance for her rival to play attacking badminton. The positive and planned game of the Dutch shuttler helped her to win the final set with a 21-14 score
on the board.
Judith ended this three-set contest in 52 minutes with a remarkable score of 21-13, 10-21 and 21-14.
