Estonian International 2013: Marija Ulitina beats Sofie Futtrup in Women’s Singles round-of-16
Ukraine’s Marija Ulitina showed her supremacy on court and reached into Women’s Singles quarter-final after defeating Denmark’s Sofie Futtrup in round-of-16 clash at Yonex Estonian International 2013 in Estonia, on Friday, January 11.
The second seeded Marija, who remained confident in her aggressive play in the arena, did not show any respect to her lower ranked Danish challenger and won the match in just 20 minutes.
Ukrainian shuttler put up smashing show of top class badminton and remained successful in winning the battle in straight games with a huge margin on the score board.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Sofie tried to play positive badminton but she lacked the finishing touch in her shots and eventually crashed out without proving her worth.
The impressive speed and powerful strokes of Marija helped her to take control of the pace right from the opening rallies of opening game.
Marija showed that she has got top class skills on court and remained successful in taking a strong position in the arena.
Until the one-minute interval, the lofty Marija was leading the game with a comfortable difference as she maintained her supremacy on court.
The underdog Sofie failed to get stronger after the one-minute interval as she lost her focus on court and committed many unforced mistakes.
Marija was very calm and composed on court as she did not play negative badminton and ended up the first set with a comfortable margin of 21-9.
Sofie was again in all sorts of trouble in the second game as she received a hostile treatment from her rival who was at her best on court.
Marija was in incredible control of the game and she did not face any problem in building a stunning gap until the end of first half.
The tricky and positive play in the concluding half of second set assisted Marija to win the set with a dominating margin of 21-13.
