Estrella Cabeza Candela, Sara Errani sail into the second round – Budapest Grand Prix 2011
Spaniard Estrella Cabeza Candela continued her impressive run on the red surface as she thrashed out Corinna Dentoni of Italy 6-3, 6-1 to book her place in the second round of 2011 Budapest Grand Prix in Hungary.
Estrella has been in terrific form since the tournament has started. She gave impressive performances in the qualification tournament and now she is looking to achieve similar results here in the final round of Budapest Grand Prix.
The Spanish tennis-pro made a slow start to the match as number of her backhand shots landed outside the court. Dentoni grabbed opportunities with both hands and made her first serve break to take a crucial 3-1 lead in the opening
set. Regrouping herself, Candela showed great determination and fighting spirit to break back twice in the set. Claiming five straight games, she bagged the opening set to take the set score lead 1-0.
Looking to wrap up the match in straight sets, Candela started the second set on a positive note as well. Breaking her opponent three times in the set, she established complete control over the contest. Serving brilliantly she
took control of the points and then placed her forehand and backhand winners at will. Playing a lovely slice shot, she set up three match points for her and then converted the first one to seal the battle.
Dentoni had her chances to break her opponent but she failed to handle the pressure. Despite getting a solid start to the match, she was unable to up her game play when it mattered the most. She also had a weak serve as she managed to win only 40 per cent of
the points on her first serve.
Candela dominated her opponent in almost all aspects of the game. Hitting 66 per cent first serve, she played a very controlled match. Her next round opponent will be Eva Birnerova, who came back from a set down to defeat Lucie
Hradecka of Czech Republic 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
In another match at the Women’s Tennis Association tournament, number two seed Sara Errani eased past Madalina Gojnea of Romania 6-3, 6-1 to book her place in the second round.
Errani looked to attack her opponent right from the start of the match. She executed her game plan to perfection and required only 1 hour and 14 minutes to end the contest. Errani is having a decent time on the tour this year.
Winner of 2 WTA titles, Errani will be hoping for her third career triumph with another strong performance here in Hungary. She will face Stefanie Voegele in the second round play. Voegele defeated Petra Martic 7-5, 7-5.
