  1. It's not that great;

    It takes 70,000 BTU of energy (Coal probably) to produce a gallon of ethanol which yields 80,000 BTU when burned. Also if everyone used it, we'd have a severe smog problem ... Read here

  2. Don't get so excited, ethanol is only a crutch for gasoline and currently ethanol by corn production is only increasing prices and costs across the board.  This ethanol fuel dependency is only expected to last about 15 to 20 years.
