  1. What makes you think that Energy companies don't already have a large stake in E85 production? Remember what the other 15% is.

  2. Even if we decided "To h**l with our food supply, we're going to use every ounce of corn and turn it into Ethanol", you'd have several problems.

1.)  You still wouldn't have all the fuel you need to power all the vehicles out there. (about all it would do is replace what we import, but not our domestic supply of Oil)

2.)  Without Government subsidies, it would be more expensive per gallon than gas.

3.)  You would waste Billions of Gallons of water, on average about 4 gallons per gallon of Ethanol produced.

4.)  Creates much more pollution, you only get about 2/3rds the miles per gallon, and the pollution levels are about the same PER GALLON as it is for regular gas., so you'd have a net increase in pollution of about 33%.  (Not including all the additional pollution created by the Fertilizers, that's made with Natural Gas, and the Pesticides, that's made with Oil, and the pollution created by the processing of the Corn into Ethanol - Enormous)

5.)  A lot of people would starve.  The U.S. is the breadbasket of the world, we export more food than anyone else, and if we diverted all this food for fuel production, a lot of people would be screwed.

  3. I think Methane would be a good alternative fuel.

    Cow power all the way!!!!!!

  4. Neither one is very good right now.  OPEC on the one hand, doubling corn prices and pushing up rents for land, use of fertilizers (non-renewable), erosion of soil and tax subsidies on the other.

  5. Well E85 is harder to transport.  It damages engines if it's accidentally put into a regular car, it costs more to make, it takes up land, and is subsodized.

It takes 3 gallons of gasoline to do the labor of making 1 gallon of E85 because of tractors in fields and special transporting machines.

I believe E85 is a horrible waste of money and should be done away with.  It makes the cost of food go up and it doesn't even burn cleaner.

    It's a waste.
