Ethernet card for pc?

i think that the ethernet card on my pc got fried from a storm. the light that shows activity still works, and the wireless on my laptop works too. windows thinks it works so i can't do any trouble shooting... should i just buy a new card?

  1. Have you tried a different cat5 cable?

    It's quite possible the card was fried, but I'd try swapping the Cat5 from the router to the PC with the cable from the modem to the router to make sure it's not the cable.

    It's also just as likely that the port on the router is fried, or even all the ports on the router...

    If your laptop has a wired connection, try plugging that in to the same port the PC is plugged into, that will tell you if it's the PC's network card, or the port(s) on the router.


  2. I think it has little chance of your card broken.

    It should be a software problem.
