Hi looking to buy a HP C5180 which claims to be an ethernet printer. Does this mean that I can connect it directly to a network socket in my wifi modem and print wirelessly to it from my lap top. (i.e. no need for a print server)

  1. I have a Photosmart 2575.

    It has an ethernet socket.

This means that I have to conect the printer to the router/Wifi modem via an Ethernet Cable.

Then all the other computers on the network, connected by both Ethernet Cable or Wireless/WiFi will be able to print.

  2. Hi,

I have an older hp network printer, in order to use the network function then you need buy an print server which goes into a slot on the back. But i think some newer hp printers already have these built in.

But yeh a network printer allows you to connect an ethernet cable from the printer to the ethernet port on your wireless router. And then when you are connected to your wireless network or your ethernet network then you can print to it without a pc or specilised print server.

  3. yes u can but be careful the ip address can change so many times mine does |Lol

  4. i think it means that it has to be connected by the ethernet cable

  5. no
