Ok I have 1 ethernet cable (only 1!!!) and I want to use it to connect 2 computers to a router. I have 2 computers in my room and the router is hooked up to another compuer in another room. I just got a new computer so I was wondering is there any way I only have to use that 1 ethernet cable for 2 computers? Or will I have to buy another ethernet cable?

  1. other than switching the connection each time you want to move from one pc to another, you will need another cable.

  2. get another cable, they are not that expensive...but if you want to save money then ask your friends, they may have an extra cable.

  3. Ethernet cables really are very cheap as long as you buy them in the right place. Should be no more than $10 or £5. If you have a friend in IT then they will have plenty of spares you can have. How many ports has the router got? Most have got 4 or 8. Otherwise you'd need to buy a switch.

One way to save on a cable is for one PC to connect using wireless then you can use the wire ethernet to connect to another PC. All you have to do is to configure Windows networking to bridge the wireless to the wired network connection. But the cable needs to be a crossover type which isn't so common and you probably don't have one of those.
