  1. Yes, you can use a router with an integrated switch.

Plug all the computers, each with its own ethernet cord to the LAN sockets on the router.

Set the router to assign IP addresses automatically (DHCP ON) and all the PCs to use automatically assigned ip addresses.

BTW, you don't need an internet connection to do this, but if you have broadband, you can connect to your modem from the WAN socket on the router.

  2. No, there is no splitter (and even if there was, both could not access internet at the same time).

The best way is to get a router and connect both computers separtely.

    peace

  3. You can't just "split" network (ethernet) connections.  You would want a multiport switch.  It lets you connect 4-8 computers to one cable (more or less depending on model)

A hub would work too but they're becoming obsolete.

This would do it for $9 if you're connecting to an existing network or router (say one wall plug to many computers).

If you're connecting to a modem you would need a router (shares one internet connection to many computers), here's a wireless one that I like for $39

  4. you'd need a two or four port HUB, and two additional ethernet cabels...

Most ADSL modems has 4 ethernet ports already so you can just get a cable and plug it into an empty port...

  5. No, no splitter.  You can do internet connection sharing, which means one computer uses the other's internet connection, but you need two nics in the computer with the internet connection.

Easiest thing is to get a router and then each computer uses its own ethernet cord to get internet access.  (Assumes a broadband internet connection.)

  6. yes there are ethernet splitters i havnt heard of ethernet replicators but i guess they might be avilable to. Splitter could cost you 10-30$ depending on the make. i have a link on how to make your own splitter
