Question:

Ethernet through a wall?

I have my computer in one room and a Tivo in another. They are located against the same wall. I was wondering how I could run an ethernet cable from my router in one room to my Tivo in another through the wall. I'd like it to look nice. So, do I just buy two ethernet wall plates and small ethernet cable to connect the two wall plates in the wall???

  1. Yes. The other option would be to do it wireless.

  2. you could just poke a hole and run the UTP. If you want it to look nice, buy two wall plates, two cat5 keystone jacks, two low voltage wall rings. Cut a hole with the drywall saw, install the rings, a short cat5 jumper between the keystone jacks, and then UTP to the router.

Wired is superior to wireless, it is faster than wireless, and I find this important when I transfer tivo files between tivo boxes.
