Question:

Ethical animal testing standards ?

I was wondering if there are certain ethical standards that are followed by the scientists conducting tests on animals in search for medical cures?

Now don't get me wrong I'm not a hypocritical Peta supporter or anything but I really do dislike animal abuse, and I think animal testing for the sake of a product (make up etc) is completely disgusting and should be outlawed .

  1. I used to be for animal testing, thinking it was for the greater good of science and mankind. Honestly, though, 90% of the animal experimentation in science is so wasteful, cruel, and unnecessary. The more I learned, the more I was exposed to it, the more disappointed and sickened I was about animal testing. Unfortunately minimizing pain and death and unnecessary suffering is NOT a goal or concern of science when it comes to testing with animals.  I'm not PETA or anything either and I entered science with a support of animal testing, but it really is SO inefficient and so much of it is unnecessary. If you are going to take a life, any kind of life, for something that benefits humanity, it should be done with respect, with thoughtfulness, with the minimization of cruelty, pain and suffering, and this is NOT how science works currently. It is said and sickening.

  2. I don't believe that there is such a thing. I know that if an animal is heavily damaged from testing they are supposed to euthanize it. I'm not with PETA, but when I did a research paper for college it made me a lot sicker than I ever was about testing and what they do. They can do anything, to these animals, adhering to only loose standards for disposing of the animals after they are finished running the tests on them.
