Etiene Pires Medeiros conquers Women’s 50m backstroke semi-final – Jose Finkel Trophy
Etiene Pires Medeiros of CRF/RJ conquered fastest qualifying position in the semi-final of Women’s 50m backstroke on day three of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Wednesday, August 22.
Medeiros dictated terms to her opponents in the shortest backstroke discipline as she earned her way into the playoff as top contender for gold medal. With her unrelenting efforts, she continued her scintillating form and occupied fastest qualification spot
of the event.
She smothered her opponents with her unmatchable pace in the 50m discipline and sprinted her way towards the wall for first position with a timing of 26.99 seconds.
Her gruelling pace was followed by Fabiola Pulga Molina FIAT/MINAS, who remained 0.76 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and ended second with a timing of 27.75 seconds.
Molina was traced by Natalia Mendes Diniz of ECP/SABESP, who stayed 0.19 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 27.94 seconds for third position.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was secured by Kelly Marie Subbins of CRF/RJ, who stayed 0.42 seconds slower and hit the wall with an effort of 28.36 seconds.
Subsequently, Subbins enjoyed an advantage of 0.52 seconds over Roberta Kamila Albino of PRAIA CLUBE, who earned fifth fastest qualifying position of the event by reporting a time of 28.88 seconds for fifth place.
Albino was chased by Isabela Vicente Silva of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who stayed only 0.04 seconds slower from her former finisher and posted a time of 28.92 seconds for sixth best qualifying position.
Seventh finest spot of the race was obtained by Gabriele Lima da Silva of SESI-SP, who stayed 0.22 seconds slower and hit the finishing blockade with a timing of 29.14 seconds.
Silva remained 0.14 seconds faster from Laura Masulino Garcia of ECP/SABESP, who made her way into the playoff as eighth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 29.28 seconds.
In addition, Medeiros was extremely pleased with her fastest qualification effort and aroused hopes of her supporters by saying that she would struggle hard to secure the top spot on podium for gold medal.
