I am going to a fine dining restaurant tonight and they have wine pairing with dinner.

I dont want to look completly dopey... but is it a glass or a bottle with each course? I am assuming it is a glass.. if it is a glass, is it acceptable to ask for a second glass?

  1. The wine pairing is when the restaurant sommelier chooses the wine that goes best with each course.

You only get one glass, not the whole bottle, and it isn't really proper to ask for another.  In most cases, these are multi-course meals, so you have several glasses of wine over the whole meal.  If you particularly like one wine, and you want to make brownie points and look urbane, you can comment to the sommalier how much you liked it and ask if they would be willing to bring you the bottle to look at again so you can remember how it looks to buy it later.  You could also ask, or they might volunteer to soak off the label of the bottle and give to you to keep so you can remember it particularly.
