Etiquette question?

I am going to the 4th of July American Independence Celebrations at the Embassy in Warsaw tonight, and I was just wondering how you address the Ambassador’s wife. I know you address the Ambassador as “Mr Ambassador”, but as to his wife, I have no idea. Their surname is Ashe, so maybe Mrs Ashe. What do you lot think?

  1. You would address her as Madam Ambassador.  Just looked it up on the school of Etiquette

  2. Like pixietrix said, Madam Ambassador~~~

  3. Mike is correct.  Since she is not the ambassador, she should be addressed by her name, Mrs. Ashe.

    Have fun!

  4. If it is like the top social functions here in the US, someone will greet you and supply all of that info to you. Enjoy the affair.

    Good luck

If you are not comfortable before you get there, just ask the guard at the door;)

  5. If its the Ambassador's party will they be spoiling you with Fererro Rocher......?!  Sorry, I couldn't resist!

No idea, however I would have thought that it would be Mrs Ambassador.

  6. Unless she has some other title or appointment, use Mrs Ashe. Her husband is the ambassador and to refer to her as Madam Ambassador implies that she is an ambassador instead of being the wife of one. You don't refer to the US President's wife as madam president and the same is true for the ambassador's wife

  7. I think you should address The lady as madam Ambassador, I'm pretty sure that is what the correct way of addressing her would be.
