Eto Rie and Yu Wakita win their first title of current year at Osaka International Challenge 2012
Japan’s in-form shuttlers Eto Rie and Yu Wakita displayed their amazing skills when grabbed their first Women’s Doubles title of current year at Osaka International Challenge 2012 on Sunday, April 8, at Osaka, Japan.
Rie and Wakita, who were seeded at number five in Women’s Doubles seeding of the tournament, showed their aggressive performance against their team-mates Naoko Fukuman and Kurumi Yonao in the final encounter and won it quite easily.
The in-form Rie and Wakita showed their brilliancy when they did not lose any set in the title match and ended it in straight games by taking 44 minutes.
On the other hand, the sixth seeded Naoko and Kurumi could not cope up with the pace of rallies and also remained struggling to find gaps in their opponent’s court. They lost the final battle without impressing their home fans.
In the first game, Rie and Wakita could not take an early lead as their rivals also played positive and aggressive badminton in the opening rallies.
They progressed closely by playing to their maximum abilities and no side could get into commanding position until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Rie and Wakita geared up their speed and dominated the pace of rallies at net. They worked really well from all areas of the court and managed to create a reasonable gap.
The higher ranked Rie and Wakita played composed badminton in the ending points of first set and won it with a 21-18 score on the board.
In the second set, the lower ranked Naoko and Kurumi played hasty shots in the opening rallies and threw away many points resulting from unforced errors.
On the other hand, Rie and Wakita were focused in the game as they did not play hasty shots. They were relaxed in the court and also took a comfortable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Rie and Wakita continued their impressive run without facing any interruption and bagged the set in an emphatic manner with a 21-12 score on the board.
Rie and Wakita won the title by ending the final contest in straight games with a margin of 21-18 and 21-12.
