Eto’o to face three match ban and Euro 30,000 fine
Samuel Eto’o Fils, known as Eto’o, has been fined Euro 30,000 and a three match ban for head–butting Bostjan Cesar during last Sunday’s Serie A game played between Inter Milan and Chievo. Samuel Eto’o fans are quite sad on his offensive tactic against Chievo’s
defender Cesar. The verdict was declared by the Italian Football Federation upon viewing an evidence in the video. The verdict says it is a violent conduct by the Inter striker. Whereas the striker will be available for the Wednesday’s fixture against FC Twente
and Inter also planned to appeal against the harsh decision taken by the Italian Football Federation. Although the match referee missed out the action, the head–butt was caught on visuals. The act reminded the spectators of the famous Zinedine Zidane head–butt at
the 2006 World Cup final in which, Materazzi was on the receiving end.
The incident occurred in the 38th minute when Cesar tried to throw a weak punch over the striker's face. Eto’o was quite unhappy and uncomfortable with the tackle of Cesar. He jogged away and turned around with a head–butt in the chest of Cesar.
It’s a huge blow for Inter as Eto’o has been notching goals for his team; 18 goals for Inter this season.
The famous Cameroonian professional footballer is the first choice striker for the Italian Serie A club Inter Milan and also captains the Cameroon National team. The ex-barca player scored over 100 goals in five seasons for FC Barcelona and his career has
shown some tremendous achievements.
Manager Rafael Benitez made a statement after the match and alleged Cesar for the punch. He also stated that Eto’o was provoked by Cesar in an attempt to draw a foul from the Cameroonian striker. Inter captain Javier Zanetti admitted the mistake made by
Samuel Eto’o and said that he will be punished for what he did. He added that Eto’o had an enormous experience with professional football and he didn’t need these tactics. According to some media reports, Eto’o has apologized publically and said, “I want to
apologize to everyone offended and the match officials who were unable to observe the foul.”
Although Eto'o might bring Zinedine Zidane's case to the limelightif punished heavily, as an example of this act being repeated in the past, many, including his own team members think this act showed extreme immaturity and lack of sensibility on the striker's
part.
