However, he chose not to ply his trade in the rigours of the Championship and eventually decided to call it a day in Europe after choosing to sign for cash-rich Chinese side Guangzhou R&F.
As Blackburn’s talisman, his presence will surely be missed but in order to compensate for his departure, the Riversiders have acquired his International teammate Dickson Etuhu.
Although playing for Fulham in the Premier League, the midfielder has failed to make a name for himself in London, mostly down to Clint Dempsey’s brilliant form last term. And in search of game time he has dropped down a level, agreeing to a four-year contract
at Ewood Park.
Coach Steve Kean was also pleased with his latest signing and claimed that with his experience at the highest level, he would be a great addition to the club’s midfield.
“Dickson is a player I have admired for a long time and he will be a fantastic addition to the squad. He is a powerhouse in midfield who has played at the highest level with Fulham and we feel confident he will complement our other midfield options,” Kean
told the club’s official website.

The priority for the club will be getting back to the Premier League, but that is surely easier said than done with the lucrative play-off spot considered the most coveted prize in the Championship. The Blue and Whites, though, are currently on pre-season
in Holland and will look to stretch their limbs and get back into the shape before the season kicks-off.
However, unlike the Premiership, Blackburn can be considered as strong contender for bouncing back up, as they possess one of the strongest squads in the League and have experience of playing against top teams.
