OK, i need a pocket dictionary for school with etymological references (this means where the word came from, like france or china). which is the best one and can you list the store or website where i can buy it? thanks(:

  1. If you're looking for etymologies of English words, the most esteemed dictionary is the Oxford English, which you can buy from places like Amazon or any decent bookstore.  You'll be hard-pressed to find a pocket dictionary that can provide you with comprehensive etymological information.

  3. I don't know if there is a pocket dictionary with that information. In my experience pocket dictionaries are quick reference for spelling and perhaps a brief definition.

    I believe the information is available, however, in most desk reference dictionaries.

    I'd check a college bookstore, or call a large, local, well-known bookstore.
