  1. Spanish or Castellano is an Indo-European, Romance language that originated in northern Spain, and gradually spread in the Kingdom of Castile and evolved into the principal language of government and trade. It was taken to Africa, the Americas, and Asia Pacific with the expansion of the Spanish Empire between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Today, between 322 and 400 million people speak Spanish as a native language, making it the world's second most-spoken language by native speakers.

Every latin america country speaks spanish, but everyone have a different intonation. Just like you americans have. For example, the people of Texas speak different from the people of California. People from Boston speaks different from the people of Louisiana. And people from Central U.S.A. speaks different from everybody.

You, as an american citizen (u.s.a.) must know why is different.

In the same way in Latin America. For example, people of Mexico, have the influence of Spanish, American and Aztec (so called indians) people. The countries of Central America are mostly descendants

of indians. Panama and Puerto Rico, have Indian, Spanish and American influence in the way they talk. People from Colombia are mostly descendants of Spanish people, and they talk different. People from south america (argentina, chile) are descendants from Spanish, Italian and Germany people, so they speak different from the rest of latin americans. And people of Brazil are from Portuguese origin. And we all (latin americans) are influenced by africans too.

As you can see all this mix up delivers a different "intonation" for every region (country) just depending who the ancestors were.

It´s is not singing like. Just depends of who are you talking to.

Etymology means "the study of words". What you really wanted to know was the "phonetics" or "phonology" of the spanish language in different countries. Phonetics means "the study of the physical sounds of human speech and its physical properties of speech sounds, and the processes of their physiological production, auditory reception, and neurophysiological perception.

So if you really want to know why everybody -american people, latin american people and people from europe- have different intonation or "singing" as you said, you have to look deep into

"Sociolinguistics" as this science studies the effect of any and all aspects of society, including cultural norms, expectations, and context, on the way language is used. It also studies how lects differ between groups separated by certain social variables, e.g., ethnicity, religion, status, gender, level of education, age, etc., and how creation and adherence to these rules is used to categorize individuals in social class or socio-economic classes.

The direct answer to your question is we (latin americans) speaks like singing because we are influenced by other languages and cultures.

    I hope this will help......
