Eugene Godsoe earns Men’s 50m backstroke gold: Day two – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Eugene Godsoe of SwimMAC Carolina earned gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on day two of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Friday, May 11.
The 24-year-old Godsoe dictated terms to his opponents in the single lap backstroke event and paved his way to the finishing blockade for the crown of the event.
With his impeccable swim, he stayed marginally ahead of his challengers from the start and cruised his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing of 25.24 seconds.
The champion was followed by Adam Mania of Schroeder YMCA-W, who remained just two strokes slower from outperforming his former finisher and settled on the finishing wall for silver medal by posting a time of 25.40 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Godsoe’s teammate, Nick Thoman, who was only 0.01 seconds slower from him and stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by producing a time of 25.41 seconds.
Similarly, Thoman remained 0.64 seconds faster from Ben Hesen of Pacesetter-IN, who surfaced on the finishing end as fourth position holder of the discipline by reporting an effort of 26.05 seconds.
The 26-year-old Hesen was followed by James Wells of Indiana Univ-IN, who stayed just a stroke away from out-touching his foregoing finisher and tapped the finishing end as fifth position holder with the timing of 26.19 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the race was secured by Richard Henahan of Tennessee Aqua-S, who remained 0.09 seconds apart and ended his swim in sixth best place by clocking a time of 26.28 seconds.
Subsequently, Patrick Murphy of Unattached-ST proved his eligibility for sixth position of the 50m discipline as he succeeded in edging out his following swimmer and seared seventh position with the timing of 26.67 seconds.
Murphy was followed by Tommy Wyher of Saint Petersburg, who was just a touch slower from securing second last position of the event but hit the wall with the timing of 26.71 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, the championship ended after the completion of all planned events while the position holders received awards and accolades for their praiseworthy efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
