Eugene Godsoe obtains Men's 50m back-stroke gold medal: Day two – 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1
Eugene Godsoe obtained the title of Men's 50m back-stroke on day two of the 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1, on Thursday, November 17. The championship is a two day swimming event and is organised at the University of Michigan Pool.
The 23-year-old Godsoe of East shattered hopes of his competitors in the Men's 50m event. He faced strong competition from his challengers in the single-lap event but with his exhausting efforts and determination, he overwhelmed his competitors on the finishing end.
Darian R Townsend of West tried his best to defeat him in the one-lap back-stroke event but he failed to answer Godsoe’s fascinating effort in the second half.
He earned gold medal of back-stroke event by clocking a time of 25.68 seconds. The gold medallist was trailed by Townsend, who remained 0.37 seconds behind him on the finishing end and ended second with a timing of 26.05 seconds.
The 27-year-old Townsend out-touched his strongest rival and team-member, George R Bovell, who was just 0.37 seconds behind him and reached the podium for bronze medal with a timing of 26.42 seconds.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed a severe battle between Peng Wu of East and Alex R Hetland of West for fourth position. Wu tried his best to escape his rival on the finishing end for fourth position but he failed to achieve so and they hit the concluding wall with a same time of 26.68 seconds.
Similarly, the duo of fourth position holders was just 0.04 seconds ahead of their subsequent rival, Kevin D Doak of West, who concluded his swim with a sixth fastest time of 26.72 seconds.
In the meantime, Doak was trailed by East’s Jason E Dunford, who remained 0.61 seconds slower than him and concluded his swim in the seventh fastest time of 27.33 seconds.
Godsoe expressed contentment over his victory in the back-stroke discipline while he articulated his desire of achieving the same in upcoming events. Furthermore, the crowd acknowledged commendable efforts of all swimmers, who tried to earn top spot on the podium.
In addition, the winners were awarded accolades for their noteworthy efforts in back-stroke discipline after the completion of session.
