Eugene Wong wins two in a row on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour
Eugene Wong continued his great form on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour and recorded the second victory in a row by winning The Great Waterway Classic, on Sunday, September 9, 2012.
Earlier in the Canadian Tour Championship, Wong outshined his opponents to register the first ever victory of his career.
The very next tournament witnessed him remain consistent in his game and he played some amazing shots on the course.
The Smuggler's Glen featured some of the best players on the Tour. However, Wong did not panic and focused on playing his natural game.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, he remained in contention for the top spot on the leaderboard.
Wong got off to a solid start on day one and posted an impressive 67. He then followed that by registering rounds of 66 and 68 in the second and the third round.
Entering the final round, he was just one stroke behind the overnight leader, David Dragoo, of the United States.
On Sunday, he succeeded in signing his scorecard with a six-under par 65 for a one-stroke victory over Daniel Im. His final score at the end of the tournament was an 18-under par 266.
The Canadian star was more than happy when he saw his name on top of the leaderboard for the second time in the season. With the victory, he became the only player on the tour to register two wins during the 2012 season.
"It's been a pretty unbelievable stretch for me," said Wong. "I just tried to stay focused on what I was doing and was fortunate to come out with the victory”.
He also praised the way Im played in the last two rounds. According to him, he felt some pressure in the final moments of the tournament, as Im was closely chasing him on the leaderboard throughout the final day.
"Daniel played great golf the last two days, and that really put some pressure on me," said Wong, who was able to lay up on the par-5 18th and two-putt to secure the victory.
He also stated that the birdie on the 10th hole proved to be a kick start for his back-nine performance in the final round.
"That birdie on 10 really got me going," said Wong, who will turn 22 years old tomorrow. "I hit a lot of solid golf shots after that”.
After two strong finishes in the last two tournaments, Wong now wishes to keep the momentum going into next season and wants to add some more titles to his resume.
