  1. The evedentally don't know the laws. I am in California and homeschool and to qualify for a Private school you DO NOT have to have a Teaching Credential. Whoever in the heck told you this they are dead wrong. Go to the homeschool legal defense website and they will tell you the laws in California or any Sate for that matter. I am thinking the school district told you this. They just love to mislead people that are niave and don't know what the laws are because for every child that homeschools they lose out on government money and their brainwashing.

In Oregon they require testing and California they don't. It is actually easier to homeschool in California than Oregon.

I suggest you tell your parents to stop asking idiots and get smart and go and do their research.

  2. hehmommy - the asker is asking about a recent judgment in an appellate court in LA (2nd, I think?) that came out last week.  It states that homeschooling is unconstitutional in CA unless the parent or tutor is a credentialed teacher, or if the student is enrolled in something like CAVA.

It is based on very old info (two cases from the 50's), and is pretty obviously a case of the judge interpreting the law to fit their own bias, but as it's only a week old, it hasn't been challenged.  There are organizations that are working on it now (HSLDA, among others), but homeschoolers in CA may be in for a pretty nasty battle.

To answer your question - I know several people from Eugene, they're all really nice.  I don't know firsthand about the schools there, but you will be able to homeschool.  You will probably have to do testing, but they're not hard to pass :-)

  3. Are you guys members of HSLDA? If not JOIN!!!!! Ask them what you should do about this since you are in Ca. Good Luck! GOD BLESS!
