Eugenie Bouchard awarded a wildcard entry to 2013 ASB Classic – Tennis News
Canadian tennis professional, Eugenie Bouchard, has been given the last available wildcard entry to the season-opening ASB Classic tournament. The world number 147 will travel to Auckland, New Zealand, to be a part of the WTA International
tournament, scheduled to begin from 31st of December 2012 to 5th of January 2013.
Other possibility of a wildcard entry to the ASB Classic was the 2011 champion, Greta Arn. However, the tournament officials gave priority to Bouchard over the German veteran. The inclusion of the talented Canadian youngster might
bring up some surprising results from the tournament and it will certainly be entertaining to see how Bouchard performs on the more competitive platforms next season.
The 18-year-old Canadian tennis prodigy is one of the fastest rising talents from her country. She had her major breakthrough this year by winning the Wimbledon Juniors title and finished off the season with an impressive 46-16
winning record. She bagged four ITF (International Tennis Federation) championship titles but is yet to make a mark on the elite WTA Tour.
The Canadian youngster bagged her maiden ITF title of the year 2012 in Bastad, beating Katharina Lehnert in the title match. She went on to win her second successive trophy at the same venue the other week, overcoming the fourth
seed Milana Spremo in straight sets. Bouchard pocketed her third ITF title of the year in Granby, when the top seeded Stephanie Dubois retired from the contest after losing the opening set. Her most recent ITF title victory came in Saguenay, as she outplayed
the seventh seeded American, Madison Keys, comprehensively to make her tally four for the year.
Bouchard made her entry to the professional circuit as world number 1104 in 2008 and took merely four years to race into the top 150 female players. She is still at a tender age and has to learn a lot. Getting proper chances to
play among the best players in the world will groom her game to a greater degree and she might become a valuable asset for Canada. It will be interesting to see Bouchard competing against the veteran contenders and it is anticipated that the Canadian teenager
will post some surprising results at the ASB Classic.
