Eugenie Bouchard expresses the excitement of playing the former French Open Champion – Tennis News
Canadian wildcard entrant, Eugenie Bouchard, showed some of her skills at the Rogers Cup in Montreal in the current week that has suddenly erupted hullabaloo about her potential. She won the opening match against the Israeli number
one, Shahar Peer, and being ranked 237 in the world, it was a majestic achievement to overpower the player ranked amongst Top 50’s in the world.
She looked good against the Former French Open Champion, Li Na, during her second round contest but couldn’t extract a lot from the contest; lost in straight sets 4-6, 4-6 and exited the tournament. However, she has learned a lot
from the event. She is just 18 years of age and still has a lot of life left in her professional career to climb up the ranks and looking at her potential, it seems she can easily do that in the coming days.
Talking about the experience of playing the 11th seed Li, She commented, “It was a key for me to get control before she did, and I did well when I was able to dictate with my serve of the first ball, like the return.
But when she got control of the point she was pretty dominant on that. I was trying to be as aggressive as I could. On the defence it's pretty tough. She puts a lot of pressure on you and won't miss those easy balls. I learned a lot today. It's disappointing
I didn't go another round, but I've learned a lot from this week and want to keep playing players of this level.”
It’s still early days for the Canadian rising star. She will be seeing in action in Dallas just a week from now and then a move to New York for the US Open Juniors event in inevitable. She said that it is definitely going to be
a different experience of playing the athletes of same calibre at juniors and the professional tournament has its own class. After that, the booming blonde from Canada will heads on towards the events in Asia to seek improvement in her game and improve her
ranking as well.
