Eugenie Bouchard rushes past Maria Deheza in Girls’ Singles 1st round – US Open 2011
Canadian Eugenie Bouchard rushed past Bolivian Maria Paula Deheza in the opening round of the US Open 2011 Girls’ Singles. The two were unfamiliar with each other’s style and performance as they were contesting for the first time. On hard court 14 of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center the two battled it out. Seeded at number 4 Bouchard won the match with straight 6-0, 6-1 sets in just 46 minutes of play.
Born on the 25th of February, 1994, Eugenie Bouchard entered into nineteen tournaments this year and played fifty four matches out of which she has won forty and lost only fourteen. Along with an amazing winning streak, she has also been able to win 4 ITF titles.
Meanwhile, the 17 year old Bolivian, Maria Paula Deheza has also had a great year and although, she entered into only 6 tournaments, she was able to win one. Out of the total twenty two matches played she has won 17 and lost only 5.
Opening the first set was Bouchard and by holding her serve she set off the score board at 1-0. In the second game she then went on to breaking Deheza and took the lead 2-0. Eventually securing her lead in the third by holding her serve, she went on to breaking her adversary in the fourth game. By the fifth game the score board read 5-0 and although, she wasn’t serving for the set, she ultimately didn’t ruin the winning streak on every game and broke her adversary for the last time to secure a flawless 6-0 set.
Although, both the players had committed 1 double fault each, 1 unforced error each, and neither of them did not smash an ace nor a winner, Bouchard won the set because she had won 17 more points than Deheza.
The second set was also another speedy victory for the Canadian as she had set the tone. Over powering her opponent with strong back hands and forehands the star player kept the pressure under control.
Amidst the second set Bouchard was broken in the first game by Deheza and it was a lucky game that she won as in the next game Bouchard broke back to even the score at 1-1. In the following six games she broke her Bolivian adversary 2 more times and kept winning on her own serve to lead the set at 5-1. Serving for the set Bouchard held her serve and in a quick 24 minutes won the set and the match.
Eugenie Bouchard secured a berth in the second round of the US Open 2011 and will now be facing American Nicole Gibbs, who made it through to the second round by defeating Patricia Ku Flores.
