Euro 2012 News: Kazakhstan defeated by Turkey 3-0, Analysis (Part 2)
In the 80th minute, Turkish coach substituted Tuncay Şanlı by Halil Altıntop. Two minutes later, Nihat Kahveci was also replaced by Selçuk İnan.
Kazakhstan still hadn’t given up the battle and they were trying to make a comeback but in the effort of scoring, Maltsev was flagged off side during the 83rd minute.
In the 85th minute, Kazakhs made another substitution by bringing in Rozhkov for Kislitsyn, while Turkey tried to take advantage by making quick passes but they were stopped midway and it was then that they made their last substitution by bringing Kazım for Aurélio.
Radionov tried to score in the 90th minute but he missed. By now, it was realized that the unsung heroes of the match were men from the Turkish defense, as they had given a very stable performance throughout the match.
Two minutes of injury time were added to the clock when it showed that 90 minutes had passes and in them, Kazakhstan got their last chance to score as Zhumaskaliyev lined up to take a penalty corner. Maltsev tried to score but in vain as the Turkish goal keeper Kıvrak proved himself too good for him. Finally, the match ended with a 3-0 victory in favor of Turkey.
The match turning point was when 2 goals were scored in just 3 minutes. These goals from Turkish players, Arda Turan and Hamit Altintop set the rest of game for home players.
Turks remained in control right from the beginning till the mid way and although Kazakhs showed some flare in the latter parts, but it was too late. Nihat Kahveci scored the third goal for Turkey with only 14 minutes remaining and thus sealed the victory for his country.
Meanwhile, the man in-charge of Turkish team, Guus Hiddink was quite confident of a victory in the match beforehand, as he said he had worked hard with the team and believed in their capabilities. Hiddink has been put in-charge for the first time and it seems that he has evolved them in to a better squad. He certainly had taught them how to recover the ball quickly which, as a matter of fact, helped the Turks greatly on the field.
The match’s first goal that happened on a close ranged strike by Turan in the 24th minute was a result of that. This along with an increasing chemistry between the team had certainly helped the squad evolve towards the better.
Despite this goal, it was apparent that Kazakhs hadn’t learn the lesson as only two minutes later, they committed a similar mistake and Altintop punished them by volleying the ball past goal keeper in the back of the net.
Although, Kazakhstan didn’t score but they still did found their footing later on. However, under pressure they conceded yet another goal to Kahveci who had rounded up just before he finished the ball past the goal keeper.
