Euro 2012: Portugal slip to defeat in Norway
Portugal’s stuttering start to their Euro 2012 campaign continued with a 1-0 defeat to Norway in Oslo.
The Portuguese started their campaign with a remarkable 4-4 home draw with Cyprus on Friday night, and lost further ground here thanks to Erik Huseklepp’s early goal.
Elsewhere, France finally showed signs of recovery from their dismal World Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Bosnia in Sarajevo. Karim Benzema and Florent Malouda scored second half goals on a night when many had expected the French to struggle, but elsewhere things went very much to plan for some of European football’s best known strikers.
Miroslav Klose struck twice in Germany’s 6-1 home victory over Azerbaijan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic hit two as Sweden beat San Marino 6-0 and Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored both of the Netherlands’ goals in a 2-1 win over Finland.
Thomas Kahlenberg’s stoppage time winner gave Denmark a 1-0 victory over Iceland, Italy easily saw off the Faroe Islands 5-0 and Turkey edged a thriller against Belgium by three goals to two thanks to Arda Turan’s winner in Istanbul.
The Czech Republic slipped to a shock 1-0 home loss to Lithuania, Bulgarian lost at home to Montenegro by the same margin, as did Russia against a dogged Slovakia, who scored through Miroslav Stoch.
Birmingham City’s Nikola Zigic hit a late equaliser as Serbia drew 1-1 with Slovenia.
