Euro 2012 qualifiers: Spain vs. Lithuania – Full Time Report (Part 3)
Despite the pressure on the World's best team, they still didn't panic and they kept on building up nicely, even though they were not playing their full side. Right after two minutes, the Athletic Bilbao striker found the
net again to put the Spaniards ahead. This time it was the midfielder Cazorla who got past his marker with wonderful stopovers and managed to cross the ball in towards the goal where Fernando Llorente made no mistake and blasted home another header to put
his team back to a leading position.
Llorente proved himself again while David Villa still struggled during the game to find another goal for himself so that he could beat the record of Raul, who is currently the highest scoring player in the history of the
Spanish team. David Villa has already levelled his record, he just needs to score one goal; however, that goal just does not seem to be coming.
During the game David Villa kept on taking tries on goal but he just never found the net even though he struck the net once during the first half, when the Spaniards were actually struggling more than the second half.
During the 76th minute, David Villa's dreams of scoring another goal for Spain during this particular match were totally over as his former Valencia team mate Pablo Hernandez came on the pitch to replace
him. David Villa was applauded as he went off the field as the first substitute of the game.
The very next minute, the goal scorer of the only two goals that the Spanish side scored, Fernando Llorente was taken off for Aritz Aduriz. It was his debut for the Spanish side as Llorente was taken off 13 minutes before
the one and a half hour mark.
Soon after 2 minutes, the Spanish side confirmed their victory as David Silva finally managed to find the net after numerous attempts. This goal also came with the help of the Real Madrid in-form right back, Sergio Ramos.
The Spanish full back delivered another wonder ball inside the box and found David Silva who made no mistake in heading the ball to the top left corner to make it 3-1 for the Spaniards.
Now it was confirmed that the Spanish side was ready to qualify for the Euro 2012 as it was their third win in the qualifiers and they have 9 points in total.
During the dying moments of the game, the Spanish coach changed Sergio Ramos for Alvaro Arbeloa while the Lithuanian coach brought on Robertas Poskus for Deividas Cesnauskis. The match was simply far from over for Lithuania
as the World Champions totally dominated the game even without some of their key players that they were missing out on because of injuries.
Now the Spaniards are going to face Scotland on the coming Tuesday. The match is definitely going to be a must-watch as Scotland appears to be the toughest side of the group besides Spain. What will happen when these two
European nations collide? Can the Spaniards pull off another win without the "amazing" Xavi Hernandez? Well, we can only wait and find out.
