Centre-Backs:
Heitinga is yet again expected to partner Mathijsen in the heart of Oranje’s back-line. Both enjoyed a consistent season while representing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 and Malaga respectively, and would be keen to keep their good form intact while donning the jerseys of the
Flying Dutchmen.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven’s Wilfried Bouma have performed consistently in the recently concluded season, and would be hoping to play their part perfectly whenever their coach needs them.
Left-Backs:
Van Marwijk, however, is facing a tough task in the absence of his regular left-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Erik-Pieters-c12766, who is left out of the Dutch 23-man squad due to a foot injury.
Jetro Willems and Bouma got the nod from the former Borussia Dortmund coach over AC Milan’s Urby Emanuelson and Ajax’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vurnon-Anita-c36486 – both featured inconsistently at the left-back position in the recently concluded 2011/12 campaign.
The 18-year-old stopper had a tremendous season at Philips Stadion, and is expected to start for the Oranje down the left side of the defence in the European Championship despite not having enough experience under his belt. Van Marwijk would be hoping that
the youngster, who would be facing the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukas-Podolski-c22896 in the group stages, could strengthen his side’s leaky defence.
Defensive Midfielders:
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nigel-de-Jong-c27882 at the centre of the park consistently. The duo will play a crucial role for the Flying Dutchmen, showing their playmaking skills while providing cover to their relatively weak back-line.
Van Marwijk also has the luxury of using http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Strootman-c20775 and Van der Vaart – the Tottenham star was used off the bench in few matches to replace De Jong in 2010 World Cup – in the deep-lying playmaking role. However, Van Bommel and the Manchester
City midfielder remain the primary choice for the 60-year-old tactician.
Attacking Midfielder:
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan star had a disappointing campaign at San Siro, he will try to give in his hundred percent to orchestrate the play from the midfield.
While recently talking to De Telegraaf, he confidently said that they are aiming to reach at least the final.
“The changes Bert van Marwijk has made to our style of play since taking over have proven to be quite successful as we reached the final at the World Cup. We are now aiming to reach at least the final at Euro 2012. We want to do even better, though, and
win the European title”.
Right-Wing:
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 that saw him score goals in almost every match, he still
failed to grab the No. 9 role.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luciano-c22574 Narsingh, who had an exceptional 2011/12 campaign at Heerenveen while playing down the right flank, will certainly add more depth in Van Marwijk’s attack force off the bench.
