Euro Qualifiers – Azerbaijan vs Germany – Goal Summary
Azerbaijan played host to Germany, in a Euro 2012 Qualifier, group game. Both sides were looking to pick up the win in the game for different reasons. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 needed a win
to virtually confirm their qualification from the group.
The first goal of the game came for Germany, in just the 30th minute as Mesut Ozil found the back of the net. Phillip Lahm played a brilliant ball to Hoewedes, who then crossed the ball into the area. The ball beat a number of players, but fell
to Ozil, who smacked a low finish into the back of the net.
In the 41st minute, Germany went two goals clear of Azerbaijan. Ozil showed great pace and skill as he went on to beat a defender and then placed a low cross, across the face of the goal. Mario Gomez was the quickest player to react, as he went
on to knock the ball into the back of the net, with ease.
After those two opening goals, things quieted down quite significantly for both sides. However, the teams picked up the pace once again in the dying stages of the second half.
In the 89th minute, Azerbaijan went on to pull one goal back. After a scramble in the Germany area, Huseynov went on to fumble the ball into the back of the net. The goal, showed some signs of a late comeback from the home side, however, Azerbaijan
went on to celebrate the goal in emphatic fashion and their joy would have convinced anyone that they had qualified from the group stages.
In the second minute of stoppage time, Gomez decided to make it rain of Azerbaijan’s parade. The striker led a counter attack for the Germans and went on to find the back of the net, despite having his initial effort saved.
As a result, Germany cruised to victory by three goals to one, as they ensured progress from their group.
