Europa League Full Time Report: CSKA Moscow vs. Palermo – 7 minutes change CSKA’s fate to victory
Three goals scored in the span on seven minutes in the second half saw CSKA Moscow come from behind and go on to beat a ten man Palermo side, by a score line of three goals to one to help ensure the Russian side a spot in the next round
in the Europa League.
Massimo Maccarnoe gave Palermo the early lead on the tenth minute; however everything seemed to change for the visiting team as Antonio Nocerino was shown the red card on the thirty first minute.
CSKA managed to come into the second half with all guns blazing. In the seven minutes, which spanned from the forty seventh to the fifty fourth, the team managed to score three goals. Keisuke Honda, along with Tomas Necid scored all three
of the goals, Necid being the one to score two of those three goals.
The defeat however meant that Palermo were now only four points off Sparta Prague, now struggling to make it through to the next round, whereas CSKA have confirmed their qualification with the win on the night.
One of the best players on the CSKA team on the night was Tosic. He was integral to the hosts scoring the equalizer as his brilliant cross from the left managed to find Honda, who smashed the ball into the back of the net off, of the half
volley.
Three minutes later, Necid managed to get his name on the score sheet, after creating space and unleashing an unstoppable shot from twelve yards out.
The turnaround was completed with a combination of both the goal scorers. On the fifty fourth minute Honda crossed from the right and managed to find calm and composed Necid, who coolly tapped the ball inside the goal.
Palermo in their defence claimed that the only reason they got humiliated because of the fact that they were down to ten men, but according to the experts they could have had fifteen men on their side, however would have still lost as
CSKA went into a class of their own in the second half.
The CSKA fans gave the home side a standing ovation once the match was over and it was one that was thoroughly deserved by the home side. Palermo will have a lot of work on their hands for next week’s round of matches, while CSKA will
be looking to take it easy next time around having already secured qualification into the next stage.
