Europa League Full time report: VfB Stuttgart vs Young Boys- Stuttgart school Young Boys as they put three past them
The Young Boys from Switzerland were looking to take full advantage of Stuttgart's fall in form as the team travelled to Germany to face Stuttgart.
Stuttgart have so far had three straight defeats in the German Bundesliga, however their opposing team tonight did not plan on showing any mercy to their opponents who seemed to be falling from grace.
The Young Boys' in charge Christian Gross was reported to have said: "Stuttgart are the favourites and if both of the sides play to their true potential, then of course Stuttgart are expected to win, but we are here to cause a surprise”
“We will do everything we can to win.”
"We have got to make sure we put them under a lot of pressure and never let them have a chance of getting into the game.''
However the Stuttgart director of Sports was reported to have said the following in the build up to the match: "They played a fantastic Champions League game and we know they are a dangerous team''
"But we have no fear.''
"We want to make a good start to the Europa League as now the season really gets going'
"The stakes are very high, but that does not make the pressure any greater.''
The experts believed that Stuttgart could pull through their first win of the season that was of course unless the Young Boys pulled off the same form that they showed when they took on Tottenham earlier this season.
The match kicked off with both the teams looking to go at it from the start. Both the teams knew that this was their opportunity to pick up their season’s performance and hence weren't planning on leaving anything to fall upon them.
The Young Boys were going toe to toe with the Germans which was something that was expected of the Boys from Switzerland, who are known to try and get on top of their opponents from the very first minute.
However the Boys' inexperience on the field paved way to the first goal for Stuttgart. Alain Nef brought down Pavel Pogrebniak with a late tackle and it resulted in a penalty for the German side.
Jeronimo Baretto Cacau stepped up to take the spot kick, and powered the ball into the lower left corner. Despite the keeper diving in the right direction he just couldn't get his hands on the ball. The ball was placed into the corner with perfection and
had just the right pace to carry it into the goal.
That was the only goal in the opening half; however two players from the Young Boys side also got their name in the referee's black book, only for the wrong reasons. Marco Schneuwly and Christoph picked up yellow cards near the fortieth minute mark and were
shown the card for their bad conduct.
The half ended with the German side leading by one goal to nil.
The second half picked up in the same manner as the first. Both the teams were going at it once again; however another slip up from the Young Boys saw Stuttgart score their second goal on the night. On the hour mark Cacau found ample space in the box to
pass the ball to Christian Gentner who didn't think twice before hitting a left footed shot into the top left corner of the goal from nearly eighteen yards out.
As the match progressed Stuttgart started to dominate, they were seeing far more of the ball and were creating and taking way more chances then their opponents from Switzerland, who were being schooled by the Germans.
To add insult to injury, Serdar Tasci scored a goal in the ninetieth minute as the player struck with his left foot from six yards out, ending the match and sending the Young Boys home with a lot of homework to do for their coming fixtures.
