An intense first half was experienced against these two European giants. City named a very strong team for the opponents, with many of the first team players making starting for the side.
City goal keeper Shay Given was handed his first start of the season in the Europa League, who replaced the rather out of form Joe Hart between the posts. City thrashed Poznan 3-1 at home and a win would secure their position into the
last 32.
The Premier League team started the match in emphatic fashion with City making the most of the opportunities. The atmosphere in the stadium was daunting for the visitors as the home side quickly gained momentum. Striker Rudnevs took a
good shot on target but didn’t trouble the goal keeper. Moments later, Emmanuel Adebayor found himself in a good area but was denied an opportunity to score owing to a marvellous tackle by Arboleda.
The goal of the game came owing to the courtesy of midfielder D Injac. The player found himself in a good area and unleashed a low powerful drive into the bottom corner, giving Given no chance to stop it. The stadium burst into joy for
the midfielder and chants started romping in the stadium.
Manchester City sought a quick comeback and midfielder Patrick Viera took a long range shot on goal but was denied by Buric with a brilliant save. That was the most exciting part for the City, who seemed off colour without Captain Carlos
Tevez. The side has recently dropped points in the Premier League and would need major improvement in the second half in order to find the equalizing goal and the winner.
