Europa League Half time report: VfB Stuttgart vs Young Boys
The Young Boys from Switzerland were looking to take full advantage of Stuttgart's fall in form as the team travelled to Germany to face Stuttgart.
Stuttgart have so far had three straight defeats in the German Bundesliga, however their opposing team tonight did not plan on showing any mercy to their opponents who seemed to be falling from grace. The Young Boys' in charge Christian Gross was reported
to have said: "Stuttgart are the favourites and if both of the sides play to their true potential, then of course Stuttgart are expected to win, but we are here to cause a surprise”
“We will do everything we can to win.”
"We have got to make sure we put them under a lot of pressure and never let them have a chance of getting into the game.''
However the Stuttgart director of Sports was reported to have said the following in the build up to the match: "They played a fantastic Champions League game and we know they are a dangerous team''
"But we have no fear.''
"We want to make a good start to the Europa League as now the season really gets going'
"The stakes are very high, but that does not make the pressure any greater.''
Experts believe that Stuttgart could pull through their first win of the season because of having a lot of experience in fixtures of international tournaments. However Young Boys have proved themselves as men too and they won’t be looking down to prove anything
otherwise.
They were able to take on Tottenham earlier this season and certainly shows that the team has the capability to take in tougher opponents.
The match kicked off with both the teams looking to go at it from the start. Both the teams knew that this was their opportunity to pick up their season and hence weren't planning on leaving anything behind.
The rival teams were almost evenly cancelling each other out in their plays and that caused the intensity of the match to increase, however the first mistake on the night came on behalf of the Young Boys.
Alain Nef brought down Pavel Pogrebniak with a late tackle and it resulted in a penalty for the German side.
The German international Jeronimo Baretto Cacau stepped up to take the spot kick, and powered the ball into the lower left corner. Despite the keeper diving in the right direction he just couldn't get his hands on the ball.
That was the one and only goal in the opening half; but there was more to the tale as two Young Boy's players were booked for offensive behaviour in the half. Marco Schneuwly and Chrisopth Spycher were both shown the yellow card in the thirty ninth and
fortieth minute.
The half ended with the German side leading by one goal to nil.
