Europa League: Lech Poznan v Manchester City half time report
Lech Poznan 1 Manchester City 0
Dimitrije Injac’s goal has given Lech Poznan the half time lead against Manchester City.
The goal came on the half hour mark with a great strike from outside the penalty area from Injac after he picked up the loose ball from the City defence.
City began the game brightly, creating good chances to take the lead, but it was their poor defending that undone them as the half wore on.
James Milner nearly put City in front in the early stages of the game. Adam Johnson weaved his way into the penalty area to pick out Milner, and his shot on target was blocked by the Lech Poznan defence.
The man who scored a hat-trick in the first meeting between the sides a fortnight ago Emmanuel Adebayor had a shot well-saved by Lech Poznan ‘keeper Jasmin Buric.
City were putting pressure on Lech Poznan, and they had several chances within seconds of each other, as Patrick Vieira had his effort stopped on the line, while Adebayor was denied twice and so was Dedryck Boyatta, who had the best chance in that period with a header.
The home side began to put attacks together, and two came within the space of a few minutes. Slawomir Peszko’s free kick just whistled past the post and would have been a goal had it hit the target, while Semir Stelic’s strike from outside the penalty area went just wide of City ‘keeper Shay Given’s goal.
Lech Poznan’s reward for their play came through a fantastic goal from Injac, who hit the shot first time from well outside the box which found the bottom left corner. It was not the best of defending from City at this stage who were too open over the past 15 minutes, but it was such a sweet strike which left Given with no chance of saving it.
City manager Roberto Mancini is under pressure at the moment to deliver, having lost the last two games, and it is not going his way at the moment.
