Europa League Match Analysis: Manchester City vs. Red Bull Salzburg – City cruise into next round (Part 4)
In the last ten minutes, another drama queen at City managed to go close on two occasions. Adebayor the striker who has been trying to pursue a move away from the team in January went close in both the eighty second and eighty eighth minute. However, on
both those occasions, the striker managed to place his shot just wide and as a result when the final whistle was blown by the referee the score line read, three goals to nil in favour of City.
City left the pitch with a sense of rather disbelief as the team that drew with Stoke this past weekend was now in the knock out stages on the Europa League and was looking rather strong. Experts even went on to tip the team to go all the way in the tournament
if they retained the same form.
However, what will be interesting to watch is what team Mancini will field up against Juventus in the team’s next clash in the Europa League. With City already having qualified into the next round and Juventus needing a win, the match is looking to be a
potential goal fest.
The two players who stood out for City on the night were both the players who created headlines for all the wrong reasons prior to the game. Johnson was quite simply fantastic on the night as his touch was brilliant and his determination and intensity were
setting him apart on the night as well.
On the other hand, Balotelli the highly controversial striker also had a rather good game. He was always present to receive the ball up front and used his brilliance and superior technique to get City ahead on the night. His double just went on to prove
that perhaps his arrogance can be justified after all.
However, Mancini would still not be very pleased as the targets that he has been assigned include making the Champions League next season and he is well aware of the fact that there is still a lot of work to do before his team can actually contend amongst
the best in Europe.
