Europa League News: PSV defeat Sibir 5-0 and 5-1 on aggregate
PSV Eindhoven showed no mercy as they took out their vendetta against Sibir after they scored a lone goal leading to their victory in the first leg of the Europa League qualification matches.
The home ground of PSV Eindhoven, Philips Stadion had a spectacular presentation of true-to-the-sport spectators as referee Stefan Johannesson blew the whistle to start the match.
Prior to the match the PSV manager Fred Rutten had told that this was his home ground and therefore it was difficult to defeat him here, plus he had a couple of new strategies in mind to counter Sibir. Well his plan did picture success by the performance from his players.
The on loan forward from the German club Hamburg ,Marcus Berg kept his starry performance on the rise for his new club, continuing to shine just as he did against AZ. In the 38th minute he out did many on the field as a spectacular back heel provided the first goal for PSV.
The 24 year old Swedish player is promising a really bright future making him worth to keep an eye on in the future. He has already had 53 appearances and 21 goals for Gotenborg while 56 appearances and 33 goals for Groningen. In 2009 he made a switch to Hamburg but had a somewhat disappointing stay there as he scored just 4 goals in 20 matches. This summer he has been sent off to PSV and he has acquired 2 goals in 3 matches for them.
After Berg’s goal, Dutch midfielder Orlando Engelaar produced another goal just before the hour mark and the score became 2-0. The former Schalke player came to PSV last season and has 28 caps and 2 goals for them.
After the 58th minute goal, the PSV men were flying on the field. Their assault from the flank and the midfield gave no time for retaliation to the Sibir men. PSV continued to make brilliant penetrations and with that they destroyed the Russian club as onslaughts came one after another.
The Dutch club showed exceptional performance on the wings and midfield; with acute passing and sensible dribbling they tore through the box making Sibir feel lucky of not having conceded a goal on each attack.
After the 2nd goal, the other 24 year old Swede on the team Ola Toivonen, decided to come into action as he finished with finesse in the 63rd minute to produce yet another goal and continue his superb form.
The attacking midfielder Toivonen has interested many clubs this season and just recently the English giants, Liverpool seemed intent on signing the young player. The negotiations are still in progress and with the transfer window approaching fast on 31st August a final answer is expected soon. Toivonen joined PSV last season from Malmo FF where he had 17 goals in 51 appearances. For PSV he has had 24 goals in 50 caps since last season.
It was an all show by PSV, a team that rarely looked like the team that last battled against Sibir. Rutten and his men seemed more energetic in the match as they took the battle to their opponents. The players always came forward to challenge Sibir’s men and always tried to produce a counter when they got the chance.
It was the 23 year old Hungarian international Dzsudzsak Balazs who scored the 4th goal in the 73rd minute. He came from the wings earlier and then doubled up to finish brilliantly. The winger joined PSV in 2008 and since then has been a constant performer, compiling 89 caps and 29 goals.
The last goal of the match came in the injury time as a foul resulted in a penalty and Balazs lined up to take it. He made no mistake in placing it at the back of the net and in the end PSV won 5-0 and 5-1 on aggregate.
