  1. I will be short.

    Portugal

  2. Every place in Europe has it's own character and interesting things to see and do. You can get a lot of different opinions depending on what people have experienced and what their interests are. What's important for your trip is what your interests are. Basically, the weather here in Europe is pretty good for travel in September and there aren't so many tourists as the peak of the tourist season - unless you head to Munich for Octoberfest.

There are a lot of interesting events here in Italy in September. One of my favorite festivals is in Marostica: http://www.marosticascacchi.it/a_2_EN_9_... It's only run every other year and this will be one of them. Bologna runs it's City of Food festival in September and the Historical Regatta in Venice is early in the month. There's also a Giostra (joust) in Arezzo between Florence and Rome. Rome has a Notte Bianco (white night) where many things stay open throughout the night and there are performances in many places around the city. Naples has a similar white night. There are lots of other events throughout the country during September. People have just returned home from the vacation period and everything is up and running again.

  3. you should definately go to scandinavia, it's the best in the summer though, norway is ridiculously expensive, try $6 for coffee and $11 for a hot dog, denmark is still expensive but not as bad as norway, Sweden and Iceland are great, Iceland would probably be to cold in september

but i reccomend you stay in Hotel Hornburg in Rothenburg ob der tauber, Bavaria, Germany for 1.5 weeks and in a cottage in Skåne, Sweden for the other 1.5 weeks, i hope this helped! i have been to both those places it is great!,

    other tips:

portugal i wouldnt say is safe but i dont really know for sure

forgot great britain and ireland, way to rainy and the english are really rude,

the french are rude as well and they hate americans,

Italy is very nice and beautiful, but they use the euro which is expensive for usd

dont go to turkey or greece it is not the nicest of places and it is not the safest. and again it depends on your budget, if you don't want to spend alot go to eastern europe(except russia because thats like the 3rd most expensive country in the world according to the UN)

  4. You have 3 weeks, so do Portugal, a few stops in Spain, and a few in the South of France.

  5. Some people have contradicted the above posted on a question I asked: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...  I don't really know myself, but I'm definitely going to Scandinavia myself.  You could go to Italy in the winter, but Scandinavia wouldn't be so pleasant then.

  6. To the uninformed person who mentioned Portugal is "not safe" in fact Portugal is THE safest country in Europe, Lisbon, the capital, is the european city with the lowest crime rate in Europe and one of the lowest in the world...

Portugal is indeed great and far cheaper than most other european countries.

    The strongest points are:

    - safety

    - weather, its the european country with the highest number of sunny days per year.

    - history, it has a gigantic history, it's a 900 year old country, EVERY village, town or major city has a castle, most of the times 700 or 800 years old, lot's of medieval churches, cathedrals, etc. As an example in just one street in Évora, a city that is a living museum in the south of Portugal, also one of the best UNESCO World Heritage Sites, you can go from pre-historic graves to a full Roman Temple that is right next to a 700 year old gothic cathedral, with a huge Renaissance Palace as a neighbour... But for anybody who knows a little bit of History is not a surprise, Portugal was the world's first super-power, it had in the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th century an empire that stretched from Brazil to the whole of Africa to India, Indonesia, Malaysia, China and even Japan. The country is FULL of historical remains of those days.
