Question

what would be better for 3 people going 2gether to europe.......going in a tour with and agency, or renting a car and driving bythemselves........OR..........buying a europass for the train???

what is the cheapest, most comfortable way to enjoy europe?

In my opinion, avoid the agency: you may use it only for cheap air tickets or rooms. Car: rental fees , fuel, parking and (in some countries  only )the highway toll fee are quite expensive everywhere in Europe. Fuel can cost more than 2 USD per liter in some countries. Parking in some cities ' downtown can cost 1.5 USD  and more per hour. Meanwhile the car allows you to be free to reach any destination in accordance with your own schedule.

Train is ok, if you are on a budget travel: usually there are public transportation going everywhere and not too expensive, and some long transfer by night can save you a couple of hotel nights.

Resuming: if money are not an issue and your destinations are often "off the beaten path", rent a car, but choose it small.

Otherwise (you go mainly to well known or big cities, you have a tight budget) use interrail or other discounted tickets, and , for lodging, campings' bungalows and hostels.
