Question:

Europe Trip - Rome, Venice and Paris - Suggestions?

Me and my wife are planning to go to Europe (Rome, Venice and Paris) for about two weeks on our much delayed honeymoon.

I am looking for suggestions in terms of:

- how much it will cost

- ways to save money

- ways to travel there

- things to do

- what number of days are good for each destination

Since its our honeymoon we want to stay in nice hotels (3-4 star at least)... is that a good idea?

  1. Rome - 5 days

    (travel day to Venice)

    Venice - 2 days

    (travel day to Paris)

    Paris - 5 days

IMO there's very little difference between a 2-star and 4-star hotel in Europe (you have to pay like $500+ a night to get the real 5-star luxury hotels), so if you want to save money that's a good way to do it.  Even a 4-star hotel won't have things like swimming pools or room service or period furniture.  Get a guidebook like Lonely Planet or Rough Guides, and it will recommend cheap hotels that are still perfectly decent.

Travel between cities by train.  Travel within Paris and Rome on their respective subway systems.

I don't know if you want intensive sightseeing given that it's your honeymoon, but you should definitely see at least the Colosseum, Vatican Museums (including Sistine Chapel), and Forum in Rome (do a walking tour of the Forum so you know the significance of what you are seeing), St. Mark's, the Doge's Palace, and a Gondola Ride in Venice, and the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Notre Dame, the Sainte Chapelle, the Eiffel Tower, and Bateaux Mouches boat cruise in Paris.

  2. The biggest thing to watch out for in Europe is the 'touristy' areas. It is better to have a holiday avoiding these if you really want to experience the rich culture and history. Definitely go to all the famous landmarks like the colloseum etc, though markets are also a wonderful taste of everyday life in the cities you are going to. In Venice you may like a gondola ride at night (extremely romantic). When in Paris a beautiful hotel(very expensive) is La Fabourg. You will really enjoy yourself but try to save heaps before you depart for your trip, a quick hint: if you want more time sightseeing, make your plane trip as comfy as possible (it can save you money in the way of not needing an extra night to get over your jetlag). I hope you have a gorgeous time.

  3. i would advice you to book your apartments at touristways on your trip, the apartments of them are comfortable, cheap and comfortable.
