Europe or America ?

My parents have allowed me to go on my senior road trip with a couple of friends.

So where to ? Europe or America ?

Road trip implies sharing a car (?!), so I'd choose a region of America that interests you all.  Even with historically high petrol prices in the US and A, it's still half the price of petrol in Europe.  If Europe, then travel with rail passes instead.

I would say Europe is the more interesting destination, but it will cost you considerably more.   The dollar is at a low against the euro-- lately it's been about 1 euro= $ 1.58, or conversely, $1 = 0.63 euro-cents.

Flights are more expensive, and if you plan of driving much, both rental cars & gas are notably more expensive than in the US. (That said, there's plenty of cheaper alternatives for getting around, too.)

So it all depends, really.  Personally,  I love Europe and would even take a shorter, less fancy trip there over a longer trip in the US, but that's my perference.  My best advice would to be start planning a trip for each-- places to go, etc, and also start pricing things out.  Find out how much money is available for the trip, and plan accordingly.  Once you have a rough idea of what you'd be able to do and how much it would cost, you'll be able to make a better decision about which you'd like.
