European Challenge Tour travels to Ukraine next year for the Kharkov Superior Cup
The European Challenge Tour will travel to Ukraine for first time in the history, when the inaugural edition of the Kharkov Superior Cup will be held from September 12 to 15, 2013.
The tournament will be staged at the Superior Golf & Spa Resort in Kharkov, which is known for providing state-of-the-art facilities to the visitors.
It will be the first time that Ukraine will be hosting a Challenge Tour, or even, the European Tour event.
“It is always a great pleasure to have a new event on the schedule, and when it is in a country we have not visited before it is particularly exciting,” said the Director of the European Challenge Tour, Alain de Soultrait. “It will be the first time either
the Challenge Tour or The European Tour has visited Ukraine”.
Yvgeniy Babich, General Manager of Superior Golf & Spa Resort, said that the tournament will allow them to show hospitality and to have a number of top-notch players visiting their club.
Mikhail Dobkin, First Vice President of the Ukrainian Golf Federation, said that the Kharkov Superior Cup will play the role of a major breakthrough in promoting the game of golf in the region.
According to him, hosting a professional golf event will also allow the country to attract more tourists to visit and watch some of the best players in the world playing live on the course.
“I have no doubts that after visiting the Kharkov Superior Cup, golf amateurs and professionals from all over the world will come back here again to enjoy playing golf on a terrific golf course, try delicious Ukrainian cuisine and meet newly made friends,”
he said.
The golf experts have also lauded the decision by the European Challenge Tour, as it will help in developing the sport in the region.
The Challenge Tour already conducts two events in Kazakhstan and Russia. The tour officials confirmed that the new tournament will be played just one week before the Kazakhstan Open. As a result, the tour will be available to stay in the region for around
two weeks in a row.
