European Championship Division One Twenty20 Series: Germany v Gibraltar – Match Recap
Gibraltar secured an impressive win at the 9th position play off at the European Championship Division One Twenty20 (T20) Series after defeating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Germany-c2904 with 23 runs. The match took place at the Victoria College Ground, St Helier, on Sunday, July
24, 2011.
The two sides took to the field after Gibraltar won the toss and chose to bat with opening pair, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Farrell-c63833 and David Coram, stepping on to the crease. In response, the German bowling attack came out with Mian Latif and Shakeel Hassan.
The bout began as the duo kicked off with a sluggish opening to the innings but with just few moments into the game, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibraltar-c2906 suffered its first jolt after Coram was declared out on a successful Leg before Wicket (LBW) appeal from Latif. The batsman was
sent off the pitch on a disappointing duck.
Farrell was then joined in by one down batsman Mark Bacarese, aiding the side into adding some decent runs to the total. However, in another blow from the German bowlers, Farrell was caught out off Latif’s delivery after earning 9 runs for the side.
Following the successive losses, Bacarese coupled with next in line player, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieron-J-Ferrary-c71445, managed to make a swift recovery for the side after taking up some aggressive batting.
The pair cruised into making an impressive 65 runs contribution, paving the side into posting a total of 78 runs. However, upon reaching the mark, the partnership was finally brought to an end by German bowler Syed Shah, who managed to own Bacarese’s (25)
wicket.
As the procession went on, Ferrary (33) too left the crease after being caught out off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Chaudhry’s delivery. The batsman’s loss came as the 4th wicket for the Germans, after Gibraltar trotted into scoring 93 runs.
The batting side went on to lose 3 more players, however, managed to bring an end to their innings with an adequate total of 157 runs after losing 7 wickets in all.
As for the German response, the side kicked off its batting session as opening player Dilshan Rajudeen was forced to make an early return after being bowled out off Bacarese’s delivery.
Opener Ayoma Abeywickrama was then joined in by Kashif Mahmood as the pair went on with the innings adding slow runs to the total.
Mahmood was the next player to be declared out. The player’s wicket came as another early loss for the batting side after the team stood at minor 21 runs.
More trouble came for the Germans after losing three successive wickets as the team reached its 50 runs mark. By now the side had lost a total of 5 players after scoring 53 runs.
With the middle order left to take on the chase, the players failed to cover up the mark as more wickets fell for the side.
The German misery was finally brought to an end after the final wicket came up for the side in the 18th over of the day.
