European Championship Division Two; Israel beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Germany-c2904 by 56 runs
Israeli captain Herschel Gutman led his side from the front sealing a 56-run victory against Germany in the European Championship Division Two played at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Guernsey-c40999 Rovers Athletic Club Ground, Port Soif.
Gutman’s 73 off 105 helped the Israeli’s set a competitive but gettable target of 223 for Germany. The out-of-sort Germans failed to meet the target as seven of the German batsmen could not enter the double figures even.
Gutman’s 73 runs well supported by the generous German attack conceding 30 extras took the side to 222- all out in 49 overs. The target was well defended by the disciplined bowling aided by an attentive fielding as the Germans were all out at 166 on the penultimate ball of their innings. In reply, even the 54 runs knock from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tarun-Rawat-c92857 could not help the side overcome the 56 runs defeat as the knock did not get any support from the other end.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Israel-c2925, after winning the toss, elected to start the game with the bat. Gutman’s decision of batting first was not at all respected by the Israeli top order. Four of the Israeli top order wickets were lost with just 51 runs on the board.
Though the openers, Shailesh Bangerra and Daniel Hyman, started the innings smashing beautiful boundaries but the excitement was short-lived as Hyman got a run out on wicketkeeper Khalid Butt’s throw. He scored 7 runs off 19 deliveries including a boundary leaving Israel 24 for 1 on the board.
Hyman’s dismissal brought http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raymond-Aston-c84289 to the crease. The second wicket partnership between opener Bangerra and Aston could add only 8 runs to the scorecard. Aston was bowled by Latif when the Israel score was 32. Aston’s 6 balls stand at the crease could earn only 2 runs to him.
Bangerra and Eshkol Solomon added 18 runs to the scorecard for the third wicket partnership. Next man to go was the opener Shailesh Bangerra who scored 37 runs off 37 deliveries with the help of two boundaries. After addition of one more score to the total, Israel lost its 4th wicket as well and the Israelis were struggling at 51-4.
Bangerra’s dismissal brought the Israeli skipper Gudman on the crease who played the role of a real captain. Gudman making a 66 runs partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gabriel-Schachat-c58291 and 74 runs sixth wicket stand with Josh Evans helped Israel to put up a competitive score.
Both Bangerra and Schachat played some well-timed shots threatening the German attack taking the score from 51-4 to 116 for 4. Schachat departed when Israel had 117 runs on the board, slashing Rawat to Rishi Pillai.
After Schachat’s departure, Josh Evans came to join the captain in his patient journey towards a competitive target. The duo added 74 runs to the team’s total for the sixth wicket partnership. At the score of 191, Evans - taking a dangerous score - was run out off Pillai’s throw. 3 runs later, Gutman followed Evans giving an edge to Khalid Butt off Rana Javed Iqbal. The next three wickets could earn Israel only 28 runs as all team was out at 222 with an over yet to be bowled.
Both Rana Latif and Pillai took 3 wickets each. The interesting factor of German bowling was 30 extras including 13 wide balls.
Though the Germans in reply got off to an even worse start losing three quick wickets for just 9 runs but a 103 runs partnership between A Leslie and T Rawat threatened Gutman’s attack.
Rawat smashing four boundaries to the Israeli attack scored 54 off 93 while Leslie with the help of 3 fours scored 39 off 69 balls. However the 103 runs partnership went in vain as there was no other big partnership to support. The whole team was bowled out at 166 in 49.5 overs.
Gutman was evenly remarkable with the ball taking 4 wickets in his 10 overs spell conceding just 33 runs. David Massil and Josh Evans took two wickets each.
