European Championships 2012: Marc Zwiebler punishes Jan O Jorgensen in Men’s Singles semi-final
Germany’s talented player Marc Zwiebler stretched his winning run as he defeated the higher ranked Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in Men’s Singles semi-final contest at the European Championships 2012 on Friday, April 20, in Sweden.
Zwiebler, who is currently World Number 16 and fourth seed of the tournament, displayed a wonderful show of attacking badminton and emerged as the winner of the match with a considerable ease.
The lower ranked German was in full swing against his higher ranked Danish rival and thrashed him in straight games with a comfortable margin.
On the other hand, the World Number 13 Jorgensen could not play positive badminton against his in-form German rival and lost the match in two sets by taking 48 minutes in the court.
In the opening set, both men executed their impressive shots to take an early lead but no one could made it as both were positive in the court.
They kept the tempo quite fast and did not miss any chance to create gap on the board. However, none of them could manage a lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, it was Zwiebler who started to build pressure on his higher ranked opponent and managed to take advantage of a small lead.
In the meanwhile, Jorgensen tried to execute smashes but failed to find frequent chances as his opponent was keeping the bird low from net.
Zwiebler played composed badminton in concluding half of opening set and bagged it with a tight score of 21-19.
In the second game, both shuttlers again played positive badminton in opening rallies and did not let each other to take a comfortable lead on the board.
However, Zwiebler remained composed in the court and took advantage of a reasonable lead on the board.
After the break, Jorgensen geared up his speed but failed to take over control from his German opponent who was in complete control.
The lower ranked German continued his elevated performance in the ending points and won the set easily by a sensational margin of 21-15.
Zwiebler ended the battle in straight games in 48 minutes with a convincing 21-19 and 21-15 score on the board.
