European Club Championships: Hans Vittinghus dominates Ernesto Velázquez
Men’s Singles campaigner Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Team Skælskør-Slagelse proved his class against Ernesto Velázquez of CB Soderinsa Rinconada-Sevilla in European Club Championships on June 1, 2012.
This battle got resolved after 49 minutes when the superior Dane placed final totals of 18-21, 21-17 and 21-9.
However, it was not a smooth ride to victory for World Number 16 shuttler Hans Vittinghus as his lower ranked but spirited opponent pushed him all the way to three gruelling sets.
Ernesto Velázquez displayed admirable fighting spirit and walked tall despite of losing crucial Singles tie of the contest.
The Spaniard took off in perfect manner in very first set of the match. He matched his opponent’s skills and did not allow him to gain a notable advantage.
In first half of the set, he was bit cautious against Hans but couple of non-stop rallies brought him at same level with higher ranked challenger.
There was lot of drama in later part of the set as both contenders remained toe-to-toe until game point situation but Ernesto ended this cliff-hanging tussle by pocketing final three points of 21-18 score.
This first set win provided him desired stand to launch a swift attack in following game. He put his competitor under huge pressure by dominating early segment of the show.
Though, he could not establish a comfortable lead but still managed to maintain a slight edge until half time.
After the interval he committed some unforced errors which triggered the collapse as Hans Vittinghus did not fritter away this opportunity and stormed back into match.
The Danish shuttler utilised all his experience and brilliance in the game and pocketed second set with a significant margin of 21-17.
Third and final set proved completely one-sided affair as Hans Vittinghus outclassed his opponent in all areas of game.
This time he was everywhere in court and did not leave any vacant space for Ernesto Velázquez. He established a mountainous lead of twelve points and this burden proved too heavy for his challenger as he knelt down after reading a formidable margin of 21-9
on the board.
This win in first Men’s Singles tie provided Team Skælskør-Slagelse the right momentum and they overpowered the opposing team with great ease.
