European Club Championships: Ramazan, Neslihan prise victory from hands of Helgi, Margret
Mixed Doubles team Ramazan Ozturk-Neslihan Kilic registered their class against Helgi Johannesson-Margret Johannsdottir in group match of the European Club Championships on May 30, 2012.
This battle lasted for 30 minutes before ending with concluding figures of 21-17, 11-21 and 6-21 after three gruelling sets.
It was the fifth segment of a Group B encounter between TBR badminton club from Iceland and Egospor Club of Turkey.
The Turkish campaigners came back from horrendous start and bagged final match point for their team with a staggering performance in the last two games.
In the opening set, the twosome of Helgi-Margret forged a fruitful chemistry to outclass their challengers. They earned some quick points to kick-start their expedition and then never looked back.
They maintained a distinctive gap until mid-game break and enjoyed feelings of being superior by entering total of 11 in the score log.
After the interval, they lost grip for short span of time which allowed their challengers to catch them at the death.
However, Helgi and Margret struck hard in final moments and tipped the scale in their favour with 21-17 margin on the board.
The Egospor Club shuttlers Ramazan Ozturk and Neslihan Kilic switched on the best after finding themselves one down. They dazzled their competitors with a lustrous performance in the second set.
They proved hard nut to crack as there were no signs of pressure after first set loss. This time they were everywhere in the court and kept their challengers busy in just returning masterly crafted strokes.
In the beginning, the Icelanders put a nice effort to stay ahead for short period of time but it was not enough to edge the spirited Turkish shuttlers.
Ramazan and Neslihan first pushed them back with some continuous rallies and then magnified the impact with favourable figure of 21-11.
Third and final set saw them in prime touch as they gained a mountainous lead in no time and then made best out of this initial advantage by registering a significant total of 21-6.
This win proved the last nail in the coffin for TBR as Egospor Club sealed a 6-1 victory later and push them to fourth position in Group B of European Club Championships.
